I passed my Gold Belt test!

I don't think I had ever mentioned on here that dh and I started studying martial arts the May. DH wanted us to have a common activity that we do together since we each have our own hobbies. He figured that since the kids had already been in martial arts for a year that would be a good activity for us too.

I'm still not sure how much I'm liking it but I'm doing it. We official receive our green belts on Thursday at the belt ceremony. We are studying a mixed form of martial arts that includes: Korean Tae Kwon Do, American boxing, Thai kickboxing, Filipino knife and stick fighting, Japanese and Chinese weapon training training, practical street self defense techniques, and submission grappling from the ground.

I got a new toy to play with...

I finally bought a new camera. Been playing with it for about a week and a half now. The price on the Nikon D80 dropped after the D90 came out. Now to figure out how to use this thing. There are so many buttons and knobs. I still need to get an external flash & I think I'm going to buy a 50mm F/1.8 and then sell the kit lens that came with it. I also need to find a camera bag, but I want something cute like a Vera Bradley bag or something equally cute to use.
I'm hoping that I will again find my creative mojo and be able to start doing something creative again soon.

I also bought a Canon XSi and tried the 2 cameras out side-by-side because I was torn between the two. The XSi is a nice enough camera, but it does not have the same quality feel that the Nikon has. I took several photos with both cameras making sure to match the settings. Then I printed them out. The photos were very close to each other printed even though the XSi has 2 more megapixels. When the flashes popped up on the cameras the one on the Canon jerked the whole camera, when the Nikon one popped up you could barely even tell it happened. So I returned the XSi to the store today.

Bloggers Challenge #68 - Inspiration

This is the photo we were given for inspiration:
Here is what I came up with:
I haven't been able to come up with anything for the last 4 weeks challenge and at first I just could not come up with any ideas for this one either and then it hit me last night. I came across a piece of white cardstock that had been embossed with the CB paisley folder. I used my black Versafine pad and wiped over it lightly to get this background. Then I used SCS sketch #4 for the layout. Be sure to click on the blogger challenge button on the right to see what the rest of the girls came up with.

Stamps: Papertrey Little Lady, Sentiment from Wisecracks
Ink: Versafine, SU
Paper: Bazzill, GP

Challenging myself to create more...

I have printed out all the SCS sketches 1-196. I'm starting at #1 and my plan is to go numerically and make at least 1 card each day. The hope is that I can find my missing creativity. Life has gotten so stressful around here lately and I'm hope that by getting back to crafting I will be able to find a way to relax some. Anyway here is what I came up with for #1.

Supplies - Stamps: GinaK Flowers for Daisy, Wisecracks; Paper: Bazzill, Basic Grey, SU; Misc: Prismacolor pencils (no gamsol), Offray ribbon.

Carolyn King is having a unbelievable blog candy giveaway and all you have to do to be eligible to win it is make a card to thank those who provide care to those suffering with Alzheimer disease.

More Reading Around Here...

Last weekend I finished reading the last 2 books from The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer. LOVED THEM!!!! I was so sad to get to the end of the last book. This is the kind of love story that every woman want to be real.

Did you know they are making a movie out of the first book Twilight? Click here to go to the website that shows the trailer. As usual I don't think the movie is going to be as good as the book and I'm really not sure about the cast. The actor that was cast as Edward just doesn't feel right just from what I've seen of the trailer and photos. He just isn't what I would have picture him to look like I guess.

Sue Grafton - T is for Trespass
Diane Whiteside - The Irish Devil
America's Cheapest Family
1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline for Children 2-12

GRAND TOTAL - 23 books in about 2-1/2 months

I'll come back and try to give a review for all of these books as I have time. I'm in the middle of reading another book when I'm not studing.

Blogger's Challenge 58 - Color Challenge

Sorry this is a day late. I complete failed to realize that yesterday was Friday until way late in the day and I did a mental head slap about not having the challenge done. So here it is finally.
This weeks challenge was another color challenge. We were to use Old Olive, So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie, and Rose Red. Here is what I came up with:When I read this challenge I wasn't sure I was going to be able to put these colors together in a way that would be pleasing but I actually like how it came out. It looks much better irl, my camera isn't doing much for this. The layout is another one from Beate's weekend sketches.

Supplies - Stamps: Candles-unknown, Words-Amuse, Paper: SU, Misc: Crystals-KI Memories. It is colored in with Prismacolor pencils and a blender pencil. I actually did not use any Gamsol this time. I'm trying really hard to learn how to use these pencils to their fullest potential. Be sure to click on the Blogger's Challenge button on the right to see what the rest of the girls came up with.

Penny Black Bunny Color Throwdown

This is done using the colors from this weeks Color Throwdown . It is also the first time this stamp has seen ink. I've had it so long I don't even remember when I bought it but it's been at least more than a year ago. That is so sad to say! The card layout comes from one of Beate's weekend sketches. I just love all Basic Grey paper and this is out of a pad I received from my secret sister at The Stamp Shack. The next time I will pop dot the saying after I stuck it down with my adhesive I couldn't change it.

Supplies: Paper-SU, Basic Grey; Stamps- Penny Black Pansy Bunny, Wisecracks; Misc-brads, Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol

Isn't this the sweetest teddy bear image you have ever seen. I received this image in a virtual swap I participated in at The Stamp Shack. This is what I came up with for my card. Blogger's Challenge 57 - Christmas in July

OK I missed last week's challenge due to trying to play catch up with my MT studies and then our oldest having surgery. So here is this week's challenge - Christmas in July. I received this image in an image swap I participated in recently, but I do also have this stamp in my collection. I just love good Santa images. For some reason they are hard to find a lot of them look kind of deranged for some reason but I just love this one.

I colored him in with my Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol. Supplies: Paper-Bazzill & SU cardstock, Basic Grey pp; Stamp-Jolly Santa by Stamps Happen; Misc-Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, and a little jingle bell.

The colors look so much better in person than in this photo. I really need to get a new camera. I have one picked out but I just can't bring myself to spend the money for it. I have been saving my money for about a year now for a nice dslr camera and DH told me that when I finished 1/2 of my MT course with a passing grade he would buy me a camera. He keeps teasing me about the fact that he is ok with this purchase and I have the money but can't make myself spend it.

7.23.2008

Lots of Reading Going on Around Here

I have been on a real reading jag lately. I have finished reading Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series books 4-8. I can't tell you just how much I am enjoying these books. Every woman wants to know a Morelli or a Ranger. I'm sure I'm at the end of the book train reading this series, but if like me you have not tried this series you have to read them. You will not be sorry!

Blogger Challenge #55-Bugs & Insects

I realized when doing this weeks challenge that I do not own a lot of bug & insect stamps. Not sure why that is since I always see so many cute cards using different ones. This is one of those cards that is done but I'm not really sure that I am all that thrilled with how it turned out.

Supplies: Stamps-PaperTrey; Paper-SU, My Mind's Eye; Embellishments-Doodlebug Crushed Velvet brad, Unknown ribbon.

I'll try to post more soon. I have been trying to catch up with my MT course studying after not doing much for 2 weeks. I haven't gotten much of anything else done. Hopefully I can get back on track quickly so I can start doing more fun things soon.

7.04.2008

Blogger's Challenge #54 - Color Blocking

Here is my card for this weeks challenge. I had this image all stamped and colored and laying on my desk for several months now. I just could not figure out what to do with it. I decided that it was going on this challenge one way or the other so I didn't have to keep looking at it. Then all I had to do was figure out how to make the color blocks fit around the image.

Supplies: Stamps-TAC, Amuse; Ink-Versafine, Distress, SU; Paper-Bazzill, SU, Basic Grey (Blush); Embellishments-Prima flowers, Making Memories Brad; Misc-Prismacolor Pencils.

The card really does look much better than the camera shows. I could not get a good photo that showed the true colors.

7.03.2008

More Reading...

I finished reading the book Twilight last week and then started on this one. New Moon is the second book in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I finished this one in 3 days. I know that this series was written for teenagers in mind but I think this is like Harry Potter and something that any age can enjoy. I found myself not wanting neither book to end. I have to go get the third book and read it before the fourth one comes out next month.

6.27.2008

Blogger's Challenge 53 - Use any resist technique

I chose the Crayon Resist technique for this challenge. I really did use a crayon on this however it doesn't show very well in the picture. It has been a really long time since I did this technique and it was kind of fun going back to something and trying it again.

I used a retired SU set called Garden Collage for this. I have just loved this set since they put it out. It was one of the few sets that I have held on to in all my cleaning out. The papers are SU and Foo-Fa-La. The inks are Staz-on and SU. I used a SCS sketch for this layout but I don't remember which one it was and I had one of those moments in forgetting to write it down.

Hope everyone has a terrific weekend. I will think of you while lying on the beach in FL where I will be starting tomorrow. Can't wait to come back and see what everyone comes up with.

6.25.2008

More Reading....

I finished this one over the weekend. Loved It!!! I cannot believe just how much I have been enjoying these so far. I am waiting to receive 4, 5, 6, and 7 from Paperback.com swaps. Maybe they will be here when I get back from FL.

Currently this is what I am reading. So far I am really enjoying it too. I'll let everyone know the final verdict when I finish it though.

6.20.2008

Blogger's Challenge 52 - Manly Themed

Here is my second try at the Blogger's Challenge. This weeks was a Manly Themed Card. This is my first try with this stamp. It is a PSX stamp that I found in Hobby Lobby several months ago & had just stuck it in a drawer. (Again sorry for the so-so photo).

This is a really simple card. I stamped the image and colored it in with Prismacolor pencils & Gamsol. Then I used Beate's weekend sketch from this past weekend.

Supplies: Stamps - PSX and Wisecracks; Paper - Bazzill and Wubie Prints.

6.17.2008

Two for the Dough

Just finished reading book #2 and I loved it. I can't believe how much I have enjoyed reading these first 2 books and am looking forward to book #3. Am I the only person that has put off reading this series? What was I waiting on. Ms. Evanovich is getting ready to release book 14 soon and I am just now starting the series. Boy do I have a lot of reading to catch up on. If you haven't already read these books then what are you waiting on? There are so many laugh out loud moments.

6.13.2008

Bloggers Challenge #51-Turquoise, Pink & Green Galore

Here is something new (sorry for the not so great photo, still haven't gotten a new camera yet). Just this week I joined the Blogger's Challenge group. Here is my first challenge card. I am really in need of all the motivation I can get and have seen several blogs with Blogger's Challenge post and they all seem to enjoy the challenges so I thought why not see about joining them. I actually enjoyed making this card. The first in a long time that I enjoyed doing.

I colored this with Prismacolor Pencils and a colorless blender pencil. I do sometimes use Gamsol to blend with, but I am trying to teach myself how to color & shade using just my pencils.

Supplies: Stamps-Inky Antics, Amuse; Paper-SU; Ink-Versafine; Misc-Prismacolor Pencils, Cuttlebug embossing folder, Stickles (0n flower centers & wings).

6.07.2008

Book Time Saturday

I have been on a reading jag as of late. I went so long without reading much and then the last couple of months I've been wanting to do nothing but read. Here are my thoughts on the latest reads.

I just finished the Sue Grafton one today. This is the latest book in the Kinsey Millhone series. I have read all of them from A thru T now. I like these books but will admit that they can be very slow reading at times. For anyone not familiar with this series they are written about a female private investigator an the different cases and things that happen to her. I would recommend them if you enjoy this type of story.

I read this one last week. I very much enjoyed this one. I have never read any of Janet Evanovich's books, so I wasn't sure whether I would like them or not. I enjoyed it so much that have the next 2 of this series sitting on the bookshelf waiting to be read. It is a series about a woman named Stephanie Plum who becomes a bounty hunter. This one tells you how she fell into that line of work. There were some laugh out loud moments and it was so enjoyable that I read it in just a few days time. There are 14 books in this series so I have lots more to keep busy with for a while.

I hope that I don't bore everyone with all this stuff about the books I'm reading but know how it is to be looking for something new to read and thought maybe it would help some of you to find something new to read.

5.31.2008

Finally some stamping done.

These 3 cards were for the card group that I go to twice a month at the LSS. Sorry for the bad photos. I really need to get a new camera. For the truck and the ship ones I used sketches 166 and 150 from Splitcoaststampers.

Supplies:
Paper: Stemma, Bazzill, SU, Creative Imaginations
Stamps: TAC - Old Truck & Ship Collage, Inkadinkado - My Mother's Dress, Amuse
Misc: Ribbon, Prismacolor pencils ( used Gamsol on the dress card and just straight colored the other 2)
