What's on Your Bookshelf?

I have decided to share my love of books with all my blog readers. Since the age of 3 I have been an avid reader and book lover. I have set a personal goal of reading 1 book per month and so far I have not done that this year.

I have very eclectic taste in reading material. I have been know to read everything from the classics to trashy romance and every genre in between. Each Saturday I will posting my thoughts on books that I have currently read & some that I have read in the past.

  1. I will read anything but science fiction - I think I lost my love for that when I had to read 'Z for Zachariah' in high school.

Here's a short story for you - when I met hubby, he came to pick me up for our first date. My house mate let him in, coz like most females, I wasn't ready. Anyway in the car heading out, he asked who read the Dean Koontz books - I said me, why, and apparently he loves them too. I have never missed an issue and have them alphabetically by title on my bookshelf!

  3. What fun!! I love reading as well though I usually stick to fantasy or romance. I don't have a lot on our bookshelf, most of it is books my hubby had bought before we were together and now a lot of his college literary novels that he's had to read (well that and the tons of children's books we have), but I LOVE going to the library. We try to go at least a couple times a month and last month I have to admit I went a couple times a week, lol. I get into moods where I'll read a ton of books and then stop for a while. Last month I read the first book to David Edding's Dreamer Series, Shana Abe's Dream Thief, Twilight, and then Sunshine. I was aching for a really full read and Sunshine finally did it. Twilight is one of those mindless reads with not a whole lot of plot and it's more geared toward teens so it's really easy reading. Sunshine is much more in depth and the only thing that makes me sad is that there isn't a sequel. It's by Robin McKinley. Anyway, this sounds like fun, I'm always on the look out for a new good book to check out :D

Guess who is Sewing...

Look what I made!!! I have not done anything creative in a very long time. Don't ask me what made me decide to give sewing a go again because I have no idea. The pattern for this bag is from Alicia Paulson and is called Jane Market Bag, you can find it on her website for only $6. It was so easy to follow the instructions. I would definitely recommend that you have a larger cutting surface and ruler to make it easier to cut the pieces out. My little 12x12 cutting surface and 6x13 clear ruler made cutting the pieces slightly difficult but not impossible.

Don't you just love the red fabric! I purchased the fabric at JoAnn Fabrics a couple of years ago to make an apron and since I had some left over thought I would use it for my first bag. The pattern calls for the use of 4 different fabrics but I decided to just use the 3. The inside of the bag is lined with the same black and white check fabric I used on the handles. These are so cute & are a great size so I will definitely …

Life On An Even Keel...

On An Even Keel is an idiom that means - calm and not likely to change suddenly, balanced. This is how I want my life to be. It use to be this way 15 years ago and I'm not sure exactly what happened to change that position. Everything about my life feels completely out of balance & so crazy and I cannot take it any more! Some way, some how we have got to turn things back around and get on an even keel again!!!

My plan for 2011 is to find that balanced and calm life again. I am working on cleaning out and getting rid of stuff. Only keeping what means something to us. I want to get started working on decorating our house and turning it into a HOME and not just a house. And I want to get our finances in a better place. As always I am open to any suggestions anyone may have to assist in this change.
