Must Read Monday: Shattered Series

My thoughts & review of the Shaken Series by Julie Bailes. Allie's heart is completely shattered after the death of her father from cancer, the love of her life leaves her without a warning, and her brother is killed in Iraq. Allie meets Blake at college and they become friends. After waiting for her to be ready to accept his love Blake finally begins to break down the walls that Allie has built around her. Just as she finally starts to open up and trust Blake's love; her first love Wyatt suddenly reappears in her life and is determined to claim her heart again.

Things begin to spiral out of control quickly. This series has so much happening in the lives of the characters. There is love and betrayal, heartbreak and reawakening, and unexpected loss. I read this series over just 3 days time because I HAD to know what was happening next for the characters. Book 2 (Shattered and Mended) takes an unexpected turn and I have to say that I ended up so pissed off & frustrated at the end that I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. It took at least a 1/2 hour for me to calm down enough to go to sleep, but it has definitely made me want to read book 3 when it becomes available.

In my opinion...I think book 1.5 (All for Allie) should have just been part of book one because it felt a bit redundant but don't let that stop you from reading this series. It absolutely gets 5 stars from me and from my friend Janice who told me about this series.

Holy...Hot Flash... Batman!!!

It appears that I am definitely in menopause at least according to my recent blood test. I've been going through perimenopause for the last several years. You know hot flashes, night sweats and crazy cycles, etc. In the past twelve months I've only had 2 periods and the hot flashes have been worse than ever!

Life On An Even Keel...

On An Even Keel is an idiom that means - calm and not likely to change suddenly, balanced. This is how I want my life to be. It use to be this way 15 years ago and I'm not sure exactly what happened to change that position. Everything about my life feels completely out of balance & so crazy and I cannot take it any more! Some way, some how we have got to turn things back around and get on an even keel again!!!

My plan for 2011 is to find that balanced and calm life again. I am working on cleaning out and getting rid of stuff. Only keeping what means something to us. I want to get started working on decorating our house and turning it into a HOME and not just a house. And I want to get our finances in a better place. As always I am open to any suggestions anyone may have to assist in this change.

6 Tips when Starting to House Hunt

Last year we spent 4 months in house hunting hell!! It was an absolutely miserable experience. This was the fourth house that we have purchased in the 23 years we have been together. So it was definitely not our first rodeo but it was the most miserable one in all our house buying experience.

We ran our real estate agent ragged and we were all frustrated beyond belief. After physically viewing more than 40, yes I said more than 4-0, we finally made an offer on a house only to have it fall through at the last minute. It took another 15 or 20 house viewings before we finally found the one we purchased. I figured that it was a good time to share some things about house hunting that we have learned over the years so that maybe it will help someone who is new to the game. Of course I can say that this time was definitely a learning experience. I have to add that I am not a real estate expert and every experience has been different in one way or another.
